Reflecting On God’s Love

1 Chronicles 16:34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Throughout the bible God shares what Love is and what Love is not. We grow up with this image in our head of what love should look like but it clear that we are to love God’s way. Love doesn’t look your favorite romantic movie. Love isn’t the famous beauty and the beast movie which is about a selfish Prince that was cursed to become a monster for the rest of his life, unless he learns to fall in love. I know that we as women tend to think that we can train a man or teach a man how to love us. But no, the bible states that God’s love conquers all. 1 John 4:16 “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

Love is not controlling or manipulative. It is caring, encouraging, and understanding. And that’s what God’s love feels like. His love will never fail us. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

If you have ever experienced hurt before don’t allow that bad situation stop you from receiving true love. Love can only come from one person, so we are not to be in our feelings is someone doesn’t love us back. Let’s get healed from our past hurts so that we can feel the love that God wants to give us. In John 15: 12-13 it states “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” So even though you were hurt you are to not let that stop you from loving everyone like Christ.

ROMANS 12:10-16 “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”

Take this time to reflect on the Bible’s inspiring truth about God’s love and our calling to love others. If you are struggling to love take this time to heal yourself and your heart before trying to jump into another relationship. And forgive those who have hurt you. Colossians 3:13 “Be tolerant of one another and forgive each other if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, you also should forgive.”

Don’t allow forgiveness to linger in your heart. Holding on to forgiveness is a sin. So repent and ask God to forgive you. Ask God to help you forgive. Ask God to help you love like Christ. Because you do not want to continue the cycle of loving someone and not receiving love back.

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
